Job Description

We are a healthcare-oriented food service provider looking for a dedicated Weekend Cook to join our team on Saturdays and Sundays, from 5am to 8pm. Our establishment places a strong emphasis on providing nutritious, appetizing, and safe meals to residents of medical and nursing care facilities, ensuring all meals comply with applicable federal, state, and local food preparation and safety standards. We work under the guidance of a Head Cook or Chef and a Certified Dietary Manager to ensure dietary needs are met and food quality is maintained to the highest standards.

Job Requirements

  • no minimum education
  • one year food experience in supervisory capacity preferred
  • ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • ability to read, write, speak and understand English

  • must be knowledgeable of food procedures

Job Duties

  • Process diet changes and new diets received from nursing services
  • perform administrative tasks like completing necessary forms and reports
  • inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served
  • coordinate food and nutrition services with other departments
  • assist in establishing food service production lines to assure timely meal preparation
  • ensure menus are maintained and reviewed before food preparation
  • assist in standardizing food preparation methods
  • ensure all food procedures follow established policies
  • assume authority, responsibility, and accountability as a cook
  • sweep and mop floors as directed
  • prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders
  • prepare and serve bedtime snacks and meals that are palatable and appetizing
  • prepare and serve substitute foods when necessary
  • provide appropriate equipment and utensils with meals
  • serve food in accordance with portion control procedures
  • report occupational exposures to Certified Dietary Manager
  • attend mandatory training, workshops, and seminars
  • assist and direct cleaning duties according to policies
  • dispose of food and waste properly
  • follow sanitary regulations and infection control policies
  • ensure safety regulations are followed by all personnel
  • maintain cleanliness and safety of the department
  • report accidents, incidents, hazardous conditions, and missing safety data sheets
  • maintain food storage areas
  • recommend equipment and supply needs
  • assist in inventorying and storing supplies
  • assist in food preparation for special meals and events
  • make authorized food substitutions
  • assist in timely meal service.
