Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year experience as a cook in an institutional food service setting preferred
  • freedom from illegal drug use
  • freedom from the use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
  • ability to demonstrate literacy
  • ability to effectively present information and respond to supervision
  • ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • ability to apply common sense understanding to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year experience as a cook in institutional food service preferred
  • ability to demonstrate literacy
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to perform basic math operations
  • good reasoning ability to carry out instructions
  • leadership and supervisory skills
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • basic understanding of infection control procedures
  • ability to work within regulatory compliance frameworks

Job Duties

  • Prepare balanced meals to meet residents’ nutritional needs
  • supervise dietary department employees in the absence of Dietary Manager
  • interview, hire, and train employees
  • plan, assign, and direct work
  • prepare work assignment sheets
  • find replacements for absent staff
  • transfer employees among kitchens and dining areas
  • prepare performance evaluations
  • discipline and reward employees
  • schedule and adjust lunches and breaks
  • approve time card errors and authorize overtime with supervisor’s approval
  • receive and resolve employee complaints
  • determine rotation of employees
  • monitor and correct job performance
  • manage facility in absence of higher management
  • use independent judgment and discretion to perform duties
