Job Requirements

  • Good communication skills with ability to give and receive production information
  • Knowledge of FIFO and HACCP standards
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to operate department-specific equipment
  • Ability to read, write, and understand directions in the English language
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used in large-scale food preparation
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
  • Culinary program preferred
  • Two to four years cooking experience in a restaurant or room service hospital environment preferred
  • Serve Safe certification preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of foods for patients, employees, the public, and catering events following recipes
  • Present food using proper plate presentation techniques
  • Ensure a sanitary work environment per state and federal standards
  • Maintain records of quantities used for production planning within the menu cycle
  • Maintain demand or volume necessary to complete each meal period
  • Follow proper food handling techniques using HACCP standards and record food and storage temperatures as required
  • Check and maintain coolers and storage areas for cleanliness, quality, and food safety
  • Demonstrate creativity to adapt food resources to changes in supply
  • Operate and safely use all types of food service production equipment
  • Work closely with purchasing to adapt menu items to changes in supply
  • Follow proper food portioning standards
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Use FIFO standards when utilizing food supplies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
