Christ House is a distinguished medical respite facility located in Washington, DC, dedicated to serving men who are experiencing homelessness and battling acute medical conditions. The facility acts as a crucial bridge for patients discharged from area hospitals, shelters, clinics, and outreach programs by offering a safe and supportive environment where they can recover adequately. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- current ServSafe Food Handler certification required
- minimum three years experience working in the restaurant industry
- knowledge of proper food handling and preparation
- previous experience working with people experiencing homelessness is highly desirable
- previous experience working with volunteers is highly desirable
- flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and rotating holidays
- ability to perform physical labor or repetitive motions necessary in kitchen operation
- ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties
- prepares meals according to planned menus and recipes under the direction of the Food Services Manager
- prepares specially requested diets such as pureed, clear liquid, vegetarian, and alternatives for food allergies
- prepares special meals or refreshments for patient activities, holidays, and special events
- ensures dining tables are set properly prior to the beginning of meal service
- ensures meals are portioned appropriately and are ready to be served by scheduled meal times
- creates and fosters an atmosphere of hospitality for patients, residents, volunteers, and staff
- maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining room, and food storage areas
- cleans and sanitizes kitchen food preparation and service surfaces after meals
- ensures dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils are cleaned properly and stored appropriately
- ensures dining room eating surfaces are cleaned and sanitized after every meal
- provides leadership and supervision to volunteers, ensuring proper food handling practices
- offers constructive feedback, encouragement, and gratitude to volunteers
- performs other duties as assigned
