Job Requirements

  • Current state Food Manager Certificate
  • experience in food preparation in long-term care or healthcare setting preferred
  • ability to read, write, and speak English
  • ability to comply with food safety standards and sanitation protocols
  • ability to perform physical tasks related to food preparation and kitchen maintenance
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • willingness to work in a healthcare environment
  • availability to work PRN schedule
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • basic math skills for portion control
  • commitment to patient safety and quality

Job Qualifications

  • Current state Food Manager Certificate
  • experience in quality food preparation and production in either long-term care or healthcare setting preferred
  • ability to read, write, and speak the English language
  • demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
  • knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices
  • ability to train and supervise staff when required
  • strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Prepares or directs preparation of food items on assigned/scheduled menus
  • adheres to food production and usage schedules and avoids waste
  • appropriately and immediately labels, dates, and stores food items/leftovers after use
  • maintains sanitation of equipment and utensils, all work, and storage areas by cleaning immediately after use
  • prepares or directs preparation of special items, meals, and snacks
  • prepares special snacks and supplements as instructed by Nutrition Services Director/Chef and identifies with patient name, room number, date, and time
  • identifies and corrects safety hazards in food service areas
  • assists in establishment and maintenance of perpetual supplies inventory and notifies Nutrition Services Director of shortages or discrepancies
  • complies with established policy, practices, and standards for food preparation
  • logs and records temperatures of food, refrigerators, freezers, and dispensers as appropriate
  • assists in training, orientation, and supervision of newly hired Nutrition Services staff when assigned as a Partner in Excellence
  • instructs and supervises workers in maintenance and care of equipment in absence of the Nutrition Services Director/Chef
  • orients and instructs new employees in regulations and policies in conjunction with the Nutrition Services Director
  • determines that food is prepared and served on trays attractively and that flavor and temperature are correct
  • assists in standardization of recipes
  • maintains portion control of foods served
  • assists in checking food supplies on food order forms
  • unpacks and stores food and supplies as they arrive
  • maintains orderly and correct storage of all food items
  • prepares tray cards in the absence of Nutrition Services Director/Chef/Ticket Aide
  • functions as a team leader/role model
  • understands and complies with patient care management systems
  • assures patient/resident safety
  • performs other duties as assigned
