Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred
- ability to follow standardized recipes and menu instructions
- ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
- knowledge of infection control and food safety standards
- ability to work at a steady pace to meet meal preparation schedules
- effective communication skills
- physical ability to stand, walk, and handle kitchen tasks
- basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- ability to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- ability to communicate effectively before groups
- proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
- ability to use common mathematical skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
- ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- strong communication skills with associates, patients, family members, and visitors
- helpful and caring demeanor in professional interaction
- understanding of diet orders and menu substitutions.
Job Duties
- Prepares various foods depending on menu created by dieticians for each meal of the day
- operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal
- cleans work surfaces following shift including sweeping floors and wiping down counters
- creates meals appropriate for the elderly and in large quantities using institutional cookware
- works at a constant pace to ensure timely meal preparation
- complies with infection control policies
- keeps equipment clean at all times
- fills in gaps in kitchen help as needed
- reports needed repairs to maintenance department
- reads and understands menus
- prepares meals in accordance with menu and standardized recipes
- assists in the food service line to ensure diets are served as ordered including specialized and therapeutic diets
- monitors and serves meals with appropriate portion controls
- assists in processing diet changes and new diets
- ensures meals are prepared and served on time
- provides substitutes for those refusing foods served
- properly scrapes and washes dishes, pots, and pans
- records freezer and refrigerator temperatures following established procedures
- checks and puts up stock appropriately
- stores cleaning materials appropriately
- sets up tray line and performs tray line service
- returns trays to kitchen if requested
- understands and follows diet orders including NPO
- processes diet orders and menu substitutions in accordance with guidelines
- properly stores leftovers and opened food
- makes coffee and tea as requested
- follows procedures for serving associate meals
- cleans kitchen equipment properly
- uses appropriate serving equipment
- checks and records water temperature and dishwasher sanitizer levels
- checks chemical levels and replaces if needed
- follows proper steamer operating procedures
- promotes the image and reputation of the System by exhibiting servant leadership and open communication
- contributes to committees and other collaborative efforts
- performs other duties as necessary to succeed.
