Job Requirements
- High school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE)
- one to three years prior food service experience
- completion of Department of Public Health Food Safety Manager test and possession of Food Handler Card within two months of hire
- ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
- ability to work independently and in a team
- strong organizational and communication skills
- pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting)
- valid driver’s license and auto insurance
- proficiency with kitchen equipment or willingness to attain proficiency
- sensitivity to homeless population issues
- cooperative and proactive attitude
- passion for Catholic Charities mission
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE)
- minimum of one to three years prior food service experience required
- experience in a scale commercial setting preferred
- associate’s degree in food and beverage preparation preferred
- successful completion of the Department of Public Health Food Safety Manager test and possession of Food Handler Card within two months of hire required
- proficient use of kitchen equipment including broilers, grills, slicers, grinders, and blenders or ability to attain proficiency within three months of employment
- prior experience and good understanding of service delivery with the homeless population
- sensitivity to issues surrounding homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and/or physical handicaps
- ability to provide excellent customer service
- ability to work independently and in a team setting
- strong organizational and communication skills
- excellent interpersonal skills with a cooperative, friendly, proactive, and helpful attitude
- passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients
- possess valid driver’s license and required auto insurance
- must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting)
- bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Job Duties
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals for shelter residents and participants of other programs as assigned
- Ensure all food preparation areas are clean
- maintain sanitary standards
- maintain all cleanliness of storage areas
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule
- maintain system to assure that food items in freezers and refrigerators are covered and labeled appropriately
- support the setup, take down, and cleanup of the dining area and food delivery area
- support the Lead Cook in the supervision of staff members and volunteers who assist with food preparation, serving, and clean up to ensure safety protocols are followed
- support the management of all incoming food donations and food orders
- support the maintenance of all criteria associated with CACFP grant funding, including menu creation, weekly meal counts, recordkeeping, and annual audit process
- perform job functions in line with Catholic Charities’ policies and procedures
- maintain a professional appearance and presence
- participate in training to ensure best practice standards
- support quality improvement efforts
- support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities in the performance of all essential job functions and responsibilities
- work with Diocese of Santa Rosa and local parishes as appropriate and requested
- perform other related duties as assigned
