Job Requirements
- Education or training in culinary arts or food preparation preferred
- Experience in food preparation or cooking in a healthcare or similar setting preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to follow dietary menus and therapeutic diet requirements
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen duties
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Availability to work flexible, part-time hours
Job Qualifications
- Genuine interest in working with patients and food service as related to total patient care
- Ability to read, write and follow written and oral directions
- Ability to cooperate with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments
- Ability to follow recipes and menus, especially related to therapeutic diets
- Ability to work under pressure at peak periods
- Willingness and cooperation in following instructions as given
- Basic knowledge of quantity food preparation and cooking beneficial
- Ability to estimate relative quantities of food, per written recipes
Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks the residents' food
- Ensures the food is prepared correctly and at the appropriate quantity as ordered
- Maintains clean working environments ensuring guidelines for food handling are followed
- Assists with the food service assistant position as needed by serving food, cleaning/setting tables, washing dishes/pots/pans
- Completes other assigned duties when not cooking/preparing food
- Follows health regulations by the public health department
