Job Requirements
- candidate must pass a post-employment physical exam and physical capacity examination
- candidate must pass criminal history record check and child/adult abuse record check
- a drug screen is required prior to final offer
- ability to work varied shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to work overtime with minimal advance notice
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- ability to safely operate kitchen equipment
- good hygiene practices
- ability to follow safety protocols
- ability to remain alert and monitor safety and security
- ability to perform repetitive physical tasks including bending, stooping, twisting, and wrist movements
- ability to lift and carry heavy materials
Job Qualifications
- formal training in food service or meal preparation
- six to twelve months of experience in a large or medium scale institutional food service operation
- ability to operate a variety of kitchen appliances safely
- knowledge of food safety and USDA dietary standards
- skill in preparing appetizing meals
- ability to read and follow recipes and instructions
- ability to measure food ingredients accurately
- ability to work under varying environmental conditions
- ability to stand for extended periods
- ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 70 lbs
- ability to work collaboratively with others
- valid State of Iowa driver’s license
Job Duties
- prepares a variety of foods including those for special dietary needs such as meat, vegetables, salads, desserts, and soup using various cooking methods
- measures ingredients to ensure proper recipe portions
- operates and maintains kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, steam tables, fryers, slicers, mixers, graters, and blenders
- monitors food temperatures to ensure safety standards
- stocks and retrieves food from storage areas
- sanitizes kitchen equipment, appliances, utensils, floors, walls, counters, tables, trays, and food carts
- serves food portions on trays or assembly lines
- assists in maintaining safety and security by monitoring resident movements and kitchen supplies
- identifies and reports potential safety hazards or security breaches
- assists in menu preparation and ordering food and supplies
