Job Requirements

  • 2 years experience as a cook in an institutional kitchen or food service within the last 7 years
  • Satisfactory completion of an institutional food preparation training program acceptable in lieu of experience

  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and therapeutic diets
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Commitment to culinary excellence and attention to detail

Job Duties

  • Follow established guidelines for safe food handling
  • Follow menus and production guides and consult manager or supervisor regarding changes
  • Prepare standardized recipes and consult manager or supervisor regarding changes
  • Store food using food safety guidelines including appropriate labeling and dating
  • Follow guidelines for food service to patients, staff, and visitors
  • Anticipate production needs to avoid shortages and control production to avoid waste, following portioning guidelines
  • Follow just in time cooking principles and avoid preparing items in advance
