Job Requirements

  • must be 18 years of age or older to comply with FLSA requirements
  • knowledge and abilities in institutional food production normally acquired with one or more years of work experience
  • ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
  • ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions

  • ability to perform simple math calculations
  • ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to perform tasks within limited time frames
  • ability to follow production and cleaning schedules
  • safe use of chemicals
  • ability to read thermometers and follow safety requirements
  • for some positions Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required
  • for Banner Staffing Services team members food handler's card required within 30 days of hire

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • one or more years of experience in production cooking
  • ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to perform simple math calculations
  • knowledge of food handling regulations and ability to pass certification tests

Job Duties

  • prepares and cooks hot and cold food items using standardized recipes and calculates production quantities based on production forecast and catering orders
  • works in the retail cafe grill area and cooks breakfast items when assigned
  • records over production and run outs and calculates production quantities
  • checks and logs food and equipment temperatures and reports any problems to the supervisor
  • maintains par levels of food and supplies, orders and restocks items, rotates food stocks and checks freshness dates
  • keeps assigned work areas clean and orderly
  • assists other kitchen and dietary staff as needed and may oversee shift efficiency
