Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or high school diploma or GED and two years of related full-time experience
  • Knowledge of food preparation and nutrition
  • Ability to supervise staff and maintain records
  • Good communication skills
  • Physical ability to perform job duties
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must comply with civil service residency requirements unless exempt as a Native American

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Food Service Administration, Dietetic Technology, Nutrition Restaurant Management or a related food service field
  • Or graduation from high school, GED or equivalency diploma and two years of full-time experience in an industrial or school cafeteria, hospitals, restaurants, hotels or other similar operations involving large quantity food service
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience as defined within limits of the above
  • Knowledge of approved methods of food preparation
  • Working knowledge of nutritional values of foods
  • Working knowledge of large scale food ordering and storage
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
  • Ability to maintain simple records and prepare reports
  • Ability to get along well with children and adults
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Courtesy and tact

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks food and manages a school food service program at their respective schools
  • Plans menus to meet pupil nutritive requirements
  • Requisitions foods and supplies
  • Oversees the preparation and serving of food
  • Directs the storage and care of foods and supplies
  • Supervises the cleaning of the kitchen, serving, storage and dining areas and the care of equipment
  • Plans the work schedules of employees
  • Assists in the selection and arrangement of kitchen equipment
  • Maintains employee time records
  • Maintains simple records of food and supplies received and used
  • Prepares and submits reports on activities of the cafeteria
  • Performs related work as required
