Job Requirements
- Two years of work experience in large-scale food preparation or restaurant management or
- Completion of 60 semester credit hours in culinary arts, food service, restaurant management, nutrition or related fields or
- Graduation from a post-secondary vocational/technical institute with a certificate in culinary arts or related fields and one year of experience in large-scale food preparation or
- Three years of work experience as a Food Service Helper I or II with supervisory responsibilities in a school cafeteria or
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to assume responsibility for any cafeteria position in staff absence
- Ability to read and understand directions and recipes
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise work
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports
Job Qualifications
- Meet the minimum qualifications as outlined by Onondaga County Civil Service for this position
- Pass a fingerprint-based background check
- Experience in large-scale food preparation or restaurant management
- Completion of relevant vocational or college courses in culinary arts or food service
- Ability to supervise and plan work for subordinates
- Knowledge of sanitation and hygiene standards in food preparation
Job Duties
- Supervise and/or participates in the preparation of menu items
- Schedule food preparation to meet menu requirements or follow schedules set by supervisor
- Maintain inventory of food supplies and equipment
- Order supplies as needed
- Supervise and participate in the cleaning of kitchen and dining areas
- Maintain time reports for payroll purposes
- Operate a cash register and prepare bank deposits as needed
- Assist in cafeteria inspections, contact substitutes and prepare financial reports for State and Federal reimbursement in larger districts
- Perform duties of subordinate Cooks when necessary
