Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- minimum one year of food preparation experience including hot and cold food preparation
- six months cooking experience in a health care food service operation preferred
- experience supervising or training others preferred
- valid Texas Food Handler training required
- Food Manager Certification required within 6 months of hire
- ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- ability to work in hot and cold conditions
- ability to stand or walk on hard floors for extended periods
- valid driver’s license and clean driving record according to HHSC Fleet Management policy
- pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and registry checks
- males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- at least 18 years of age
- willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and/or extended hours
- no telework eligibility
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent preferred
- at least one year of food preparation work experience including hot and cold food preparation
- experience cooking in a health care food service operation preferred
- experience guiding, training, or overseeing others preferred
- ability to follow written and oral instructions
- ability to complete basic math related to cooking
- skill in cooking and baking and use of food preparation equipment
- knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- valid Texas Food Handler training and Food Manager Certification within 6 months of hire
- ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and under strict time limits
- valid driver's license and eligible driving record
Job Duties
- Attend work on a regular basis and work assigned shift schedules including rotating, extended, or overtime shifts as needed
- review menus to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared considering specialized diets and textures
- serve as a lead worker providing direction to others and ensuring adherence to food safety and preparation guidelines
- inspect food preparation, kitchen, and serving areas for sanitation, safety, and compliance
- guide, train, and oversee staff in food preparation techniques, sanitation, safety, and personal hygiene standards
- operate and maintain food service equipment safely and provide training to others
- oversee and participate in the distribution of food, including for special diets, ensuring proper temperatures and safe handling
- complete required records and reports such as equipment work orders and food inventory
- monitor inventory and coordinate inspection of food items on arrival
- establish and administer orientation and in-service training programs
- participate in disaster response and continuity of operations activities as required
