The Muckleshoot Youth Development Program (YDP) operates as a vital community initiative under the Muckleshoot Tribe, dedicated to enhancing the well-being and development of the youth within their community. Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One year of commercial cooking experience or experience preparing large quantities of food
  • Current and valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in high temperature environments and handle liquids while cooking
  • Ability to occasionally work in freezing temperatures
  • Ability to operate kitchen tools and controls efficiently
  • Current and valid Washington State driver’s license

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school
  • One year of commercial cooking experience or experience preparing a variety of food in large quantities
  • Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Ability to plan menus that are culturally appropriate and meet nutrition requirements
  • Knowledge of food service equipment and safety and sanitation procedures
  • Understanding of Washington State Health and Fire codes
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Effective communication skills with peers and Elders
  • Basic mathematics skills for inventory and record keeping
  • Ability to supervise and maintain working relationships with assistant cook
  • Knowledge of reservation boundaries

Job Duties

  • Estimate meal orders, plan meals, assemble ingredients and supplies and cook and bake meals for a high volume of people
  • Identify the amount of food necessary for meals, order food and supplies to meet needs of two kitchen facilities
  • Supervise activities related to the serving of food
  • Maintain inventory of food, supplies and equipment
  • store and utilize food and supplies effectively for two kitchen facilities
  • Clean worksite
  • maintain good housekeeping and sanitary conditions for two kitchen facilities
  • Maintain a file of standardized recipes and instruct staff in the use and extension of these recipes
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition and supervise its use
  • Maintain accurate records
  • prepare necessary reports
  • Data entry of meal distribution and services rendered using the designated program software and/or kitchen facilities tracking database
  • May be required to transport hot meals between two YDP facilities
  • Perform a wide range of office and field duties in support of the Tribe’s community service and youth well-being commitments
