Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Six months of food preparation work experience
- Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and registry checks
- Must be willing to work day shift with possible extended and rotating shifts
- Texas Food Handler training required
- Food Protection Manager Certification must be obtained within six months of hire
- Valid Texas driver's license with eligible driving record or ability to obtain one
- Compliance with all state supported living center policies including participation in random drug testing
- Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for extended periods
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work harmoniously with coworkers and residents
- Males between 18 and 25 must be registered with the Selective Service
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred
- Six months of food preparation experience is required
- Preferably six months cooking experience in a health care food service operation
- Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- Knowledge of specialized diets and food textures
- Skill in cooking, baking, and operating food preparation equipment
- Skill in sanitizing food service equipment
- Ability to interpret and follow recipes accurately
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- Good communication skills
- Ability to train and guide others
- Ability to complete basic math calculations for cooking
- Ability to work under varying temperature conditions
- Ability to maintain sanitary kitchen environments
Job Duties
- Attend work regularly and adhere to assigned shift schedules including potential rotating, extended, or overtime shifts
- Prepare, season, cook, and assemble food for regular and modified diets ensuring sanitary conditions
- Operate and maintain food service equipment safely and provide training to others on equipment use
- Calculate food quantities based on standardized menus and recipes to ensure adequate and accurate meal provision
- Distribute and serve food safely according to food service policies, including driving delivery vehicles when necessary
- Maintain and inspect kitchen and food preparation areas for cleanliness and compliance with sanitation standards
- Guide, train, and oversee kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment use, and sanitation and safety protocols
- Complete records and reports including equipment maintenance needs and subordinate performance
- Participate in disaster response or Continuity of Operations activations as required
- Perform additional food service duties such as canteen operation, ingredient room management, receiving deliveries, and answering telephones
