Job Requirements

  • at least 18 years of age
  • pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • pass pre-employment drug screening
  • comply with immunization policies
  • eligibility to work in the United States
  • possess valid Texas driver license within 90 days if required to drive
  • register with selective service if male between 18-25 years old
  • flexibility to work various shifts and overtime
  • complete required training and certifications

Job Qualifications

  • twelve months experience cooking food in service operation
  • knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
  • skills in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
  • ability to prepare and serve food safely
  • ability to maintain accurate records
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • basic math skills related to cooking and preparation
  • ability to lift at least 25 pounds
  • ability to work in hot and cold conditions
  • ability to work effectively with coworkers and patients
  • valid Texas driver license if required to drive state vehicles

Job Duties

  • prepare, cook, portion, distribute, and serve food for regular and therapeutic diets
  • follow prescribed menus, recipes, and sanitation standards
  • maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food preparation areas
  • handle food in compliance with federal, state, and HACCP guidelines
  • receive deliveries of food and supplies from vendors
  • assist in serving food and handling cash in the hospital canteen
  • complete necessary reports and document food service activities
