Job Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of food preparation work experience
- Preferred 6 months experience in healthcare food service
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one if driving a state vehicle
- Completion of Texas food handler training
- Food Manager or Food Protection Manager certification within 6 months of hire
- Ability to pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and registry checks
- Males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended shifts
- Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend, stand, walk on hard floors, and work in hot or cold conditions
- Must be at least 18 years old to work at state-operated facilities
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 6 months food preparation experience required
- Preferred experience cooking in a health care food service operation
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations
- Knowledge of specialized diets and textures
- Skill in cooking, baking, and use of food preparation equipment
- Ability to interpret and follow recipes and cooking instructions
- Ability to serve food, clean food service areas, and maintain accurate records
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and work in various temperature environments
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to guide and train others in food safety and equipment use
Job Duties
- Attend work regularly and work specific or rotating shifts including overtime as needed
- Prepare, season, cook, assemble, portion, distribute, and serve food for regular and special diets following proper food handling and sanitation protocols
- Operate and maintain all food service equipment safely and provide training and oversight to subordinates
- Calculate proper food quantities based on standardized menus and recipes to ensure adequate supply and reduce waste
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen and food preparation areas, including cleaning equipment and storing leftovers properly
- Guide, train, and oversee subordinate staff in food preparation, equipment usage, and sanitation
- Complete required records and reports, assist with inventory management, and contribute to operational improvements
- Perform additional duties such as handling cash in facility canteen, receiving deliveries, and supporting disaster response or continuity of operations if required
