Job Requirements

  • Six months of food preparation work experience
  • Preferred six months cooking experience in a health care food service operation
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain one
  • Completion of Texas food handler training
  • Food Manager Certification or Food Protection Manager Certification within six months of hire
  • Ability to pass fingerprint criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Registered with Selective Service if applicable
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy items routinely
  • Eligibility to pass random drug testing
  • Ability to work harmoniously with residents and co-workers

Job Qualifications

  • Six months of food preparation experience
  • Skilled in cooking and baking
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations
  • Familiarity with specialized diets and textures
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and sanitize food service equipment
  • Capability to prepare large quantities of food following diet-specific guidelines
  • Skill in interpreting and following recipes accurately
  • Ability to complete basic math calculations related to cooking
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and work in varying temperature conditions
  • Ability to train and oversee subordinates in kitchen operations

Job Duties

  • Attend work regularly and adhere to shift schedules including rotating and overtime
  • Prepare, season, cook, assemble and portion food for regular and modified diets using proper equipment and sanitary methods
  • Maintain snack supplies and prepare scheduled snacks and supplements
  • Operate and maintain food service equipment safely, providing guidance and training to others
  • Calculate proper food quantities using standardized menus to ensure adequate supply and reduce waste
  • Distribute and serve food according to safety and dietary guidelines, including driving a delivery vehicle when needed
  • Maintain assigned areas for sanitation, clean equipment and food preparation areas, and properly store leftovers
  • Guide, train and oversee subordinate staff in food preparation, safety, equipment use and sanitation procedures
  • Complete required records and reports, report equipment needs or repairs, and assist in operational improvements
  • Perform other duties such as handling cash in the facility canteen, receiving deliveries, answering phones, and supporting disaster response or agency operations
