Job Requirements
- six months of food preparation work experience
- preferred six months cooking experience in healthcare food service
- position may require working rotating shifts, extended hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays
- graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
- ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds and perform physical tasks
- valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain
- successful completion of fingerprint criminal background check, drug screen, and registry checks
- male applicants between 18 to 25 must be registered with Selective Service
- compliance with food handler training and Food Protection Manager certification requirements
- willingness to work in hot and cold conditions
- ability to follow oral and written instructions
- availability for disaster response and other agency activities

Job Qualifications
- graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
- six months of food preparation experience required
- six months cooking experience in a healthcare food service setting preferred
- knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- familiarity with specialized diets and textures
- skill in cooking and baking and operating food preparation equipment
- ability to follow recipes and food safety procedures
- ability to provide training and oversight to kitchen staff
- ability to complete basic math calculations related to cooking
- ability to lift at least 25 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, standing, and walking
- valid Texas driver’s license required or ability to obtain
- certified food handler training required with Food Manager certification within six months of hire
Job Duties
- attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work specific shift schedules including rotating shifts, extended shifts, or overtime
- prepares, seasons, cooks, and assembles food for regular and modified diets using appropriate equipment ensuring sanitary conditions
- prepares and portions food for special diets and modified textures following medical and food service guidelines
- operates and maintains all food service equipment safely and provides training to others on proper usage
- calculates food quantities to prepare and distribute according to standardized menus and recipes to ensure adequate supply
- participates in food distribution safely including driving delivery vehicles when needed
- maintains sanitation in assigned areas including cleaning equipment and following food handling procedures
- guides, trains, and oversees kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment usage, and sanitation procedures
- completes necessary records and reports regarding kitchen operations and equipment maintenance
- assists with operational improvements and works in related areas such as canteen, ingredient room, vendor deliveries, and communication tasks
- participates in disaster response, recovery, or continuity of operations activities as needed
