Job Requirements
- Possess High School Diploma or GED
- One year of culinary work experience
- Must have current California Food Handlers Card
- Current certified training in emergency first aid procedures and CPR preferred
- Ability to interpret and implement approved menus
- Ability to follow the menu and prepare the daily food listed
- Basic computer skills in Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws
- Agency insurer authorization is required
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and TB test

Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks various items based on approved menus, special dietary, nutritional or cultural requirements, or numbers of portions for meals served to all program residents in accordance with facility contracts
- Develop meal plans and menus that meet all nutritional standards
- Submits menus for pre-approval before use
- Conduct daily safety and sanitation inspection of food service areas and food storage areas
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and eating areas in accordance with all State and local health department sanitation requirements
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment based on a schedule
- Ensure all food items, supplies, equipment are accounted for and properly stored
- Replenish supplies and purchase food on a weekly basis according to menu, budget and inventory
- Responsible for receiving, labeling, and placement of food and commodities on shelves in accordance with all State and local health department food handling requirements
- Taste test all food prior to serving it to the residents and reserve a sampling of each meal for twenty-four hours to determine possible food contamination
- May work with and be a resource for residents assisting with food preparation
- Follow all safety procedures for knives and utensils
- Responsible for complying with program food service budget
- Responsible for the purchase of ingredients based on current menu and general kitchen supplies
- Ensure that food is stored and served at appropriate temperatures in accordance with all federal, state and local health department requirements
- Ensure that safety procedures for all kitchen equipment, including knives are followed
- Model professional employee behavior with all program staff and residents
- Ensure kitchen chemical supply inventory is completed on a consistent basis and review/update the Safety Data Sheet as needed
- Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies
- Will drive on Agency business
- Physical presence at the program is required
