Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum six months of experience in food preparation
  • Experience in health care food service preferred
  • Texas Food Handler training required
  • Texas Food Manager certification or Food Protection Manager certification within six months of hire
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain
  • Ability to work assigned shifts including weekends, holidays, extended hours, and overtime
  • Passing fingerprint criminal background check
  • Passing pre-employment drug screening
  • Passing registry checks per agency policy
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Males ages 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for extended periods
  • Availability to work in hot and/or cold kitchen environments
  • Completed all required certifications as mandated by Texas law

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
  • Six months of food preparation experience required
  • Six months of cooking experience in a health care food service operation preferred
  • Texas Food Handler training required
  • Texas Food Manager or Food Protection Manager certification required within six months of hire
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to adhere to sanitary food handling and safety regulations
  • Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds
  • Strong skills in cooking, baking, and equipment operation
  • Ability to follow recipes and oral/written instructions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Attend work on a regular basis and adhere to assigned shift schedules including rotating, extended shifts, and overtime as needed
  • Prepare, season, cook, and assemble food for regular and modified diets ensuring sanitary conditions
  • Prepare and portion food for special diets and modified textures according to doctor’s orders
  • Maintain a supply of snack items and prepare scheduled snacks and supplements
  • Operate and maintain food service equipment safely and provide training and oversight to staff on equipment use
  • Calculate proper food quantities to prepare based on standardized menus and recipes to ensure adequacy and reduce waste
  • Distribute food safely including delivering meals to designated areas and serving food for special diets as required
  • Maintain sanitation standards by cleaning equipment, food preparation, and serving areas following proper protocols
  • Guide, train, and oversee subordinate staff in food preparation, meal assembly, equipment use, and sanitation procedures
  • Complete required records, reports, work orders, and document subordinate performance
  • Assist in operational improvements and perform additional duties such as working in the facility canteen, handling cash, receiving deliveries, and answering telephone calls
  • Participate in disaster response and continuity of operations activities as needed
