Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be able to pass food handler certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must successfully complete required pre-service training
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required unless waived by management

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Food service training preferred
  • One year of food service or related experience preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to pass food handler certification within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to complete required pre-service training
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and production sheet
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition
  • Ensure work area is safe, clean and sanitary at all times
  • Ensure the count and control of knives and other controlled kitchen tools
  • Provide an accurate count of all controlled items at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Prepare foods as directed for special facility functions and special diets when prescribed by staff doctor
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal
  • Coordinate the work of inmates assigned to assist in the cafeteria
