Job Requirements
- Must have six months of food preparation work experience
- Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent preferred
- Must have valid Texas driver’s license and eligible driving record based on HHSC policy
- Must complete Texas Food Handler training
- Must obtain Food Manager Certification within six months of hire
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Must be willing to work extended shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments
- Must be able to stand and walk on hard floors for extended periods
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from standard high school or equivalent preferred
- Six months of food preparation experience required
- Six months experience cooking in health care food service operation preferred
- Skill in cooking and baking with use of food preparation equipment
- Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- Knowledge of specialized diets and texture requirements
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and work in varied temperature conditions
- Ability to read, speak English, and follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to guide and train others in food service practices
- Valid Texas driver’s license and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy
- Texas Food Handler training required
- Food Manager Certification required within six months of hire
Job Duties
- Attend work regularly and adhere to shift schedules including overtime as needed
- Prepare, season, cook, and assemble food for regular and modified diets ensuring sanitary conditions
- Operate and maintain food service equipment safely
- Calculate proper food quantities using standardized menus and recipes
- Distribute food safely and hygienically including driving delivery vehicle when necessary
- Maintain and inspect assigned areas for sanitation and proper food storage
- Guide, train, and oversee kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment use, and sanitation
- Complete necessary records and reports related to food service operations and personnel
- Perform additional duties such as working in the canteen, handling deliveries, and participating in disaster response as assigned
