Job Requirements
- Six months of food preparation work experience
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods
- Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
- Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record per HHSC policy
- Food Handler training required
- Food Manager or Food Protection Manager certification within six months
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Pass fingerprint criminal background check
- Pass pre-employment drug screening
- Pass registry and client abuse/neglect background checks
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours
- Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from standard high school or equivalent preferred
- Six months of food preparation work required
- Experience cooking in healthcare food service preferred
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Skill in cooking, baking, and use of food preparation equipment
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and work in hot or cold conditions
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Texas Food Handler and Food Manager certifications within six months of hire
Job Duties
- Attend work on a regular basis and follow assigned shift schedules including overtime
- Prepare, season, cook and assemble food for regular and modified diets ensuring sanitary conditions
- Operate and maintain food service equipment safely and provide training to others
- Calculate proper food quantities based on standardized menus and recipes
- Distribute food safely including driving delivery vehicles as needed
- Maintain and inspect kitchen and food preparation areas for sanitation
- Guide, train and oversee subordinate kitchen staff in food preparation, sanitation, and equipment use
