Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks
- Required to comply with HHSC immunization policy
- Flexibility to work specific or rotating shifts, extended hours, or overtime as needed
- If required to drive a state vehicle, must possess valid Texas driver license within 90 days of hire
- Must bring I-9 documentation on first day of work
- Male applicants between 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk on hard floors for extended periods
- Ability to safely handle cash transactions in hospital canteen
Job Qualifications
- Twelve months experience cooking food in service operation
- Knowledge of food preparation methods
- Familiarity with food storage standards and sanitation regulations
- Skills in operation and sanitizing of food service equipment
- Ability to prepare and serve food safely
- Ability to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Basic math skills
- Ability to speak and read English
- Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
- Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
- Ability to work harmoniously with coworkers and patients
Job Duties
- Prepare and portion food for special diets following food service procedures
- Prepare scheduled snacks and maintain supply of snack items
- Distribute food safely and sanitarily according to food service policies
- Assist in serving food for special diets and follow food service procedures
- Follow proper food handling according to federal, state, and HACCP guidelines
- Receive delivery of food and supplies from vendors
- Maintain sanitation and storage of dishes, equipment, and work areas
- Work in the hospital canteen handling cash securely
- Answer telephone and transmit messages promptly and clearly
- Complete required training and participate in disaster response or COOP activations as needed
