Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • minimum 2 years restaurant line cook experience
  • ability to read and follow recipes accurately
  • ability to lift 25 to 70 pounds daily
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for 100% of the workday
  • ability to work in hot and cold environments including grills and freezers
  • good verbal communication skills
  • capability to clean and sanitize work areas
  • adherence to hospital and health board sanitation regulations

Job Duties

  • Prepares hot menu items according to standardized recipes
  • checks tallies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner patient trays
  • prepares hot items for cafeteria and patients meeting strict deadlines
  • refers to catering requests for hot production items for special events
  • assembles and presents food items meeting customer expectations for temperature, texture, and appearance
  • provides input into recipe standardization and creative food production
  • obtains supplies from storerooms, refrigerators, and freezer
  • assists with new product testing, recipe development, and recipe revision
  • demonstrates commitment to customer satisfaction and maintains good customer relations
  • maintains open communication between cooks to ensure appropriate follow-up
  • identifies and resolves interpersonal conflicts constructively
  • works as a team to meet hot production needs
  • documents food temperatures prior to service and dates food items to ensure freshness
  • ensures food is stored covered and dated, utilizes leftovers safely and appropriately
  • maintains a safe sanitary work area meeting hospital and health board regulations
  • cleans and sanitizes work areas including tables, equipment, stove, ovens, and meat walk-in refrigerator
  • participates in departmental performance improvement plans
  • collaborates with hospital departments and associates to meet customer expectations
  • follows documentation practices accurately and concisely
