Job Requirements

  • One year of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or one year of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and food storage
  • Ability to record information accurately
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must hold a current valid California Driver's License if position requires driving
  • Must adhere to Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy if driving is required

Job Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or one year of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Knowledge of the methods of preparing food in large quantities and considerable variety
  • kitchen sanitation and food storage
  • personal cleanliness and neatness
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes and prepare quantities of food required with a minimum of waste
  • accurately record information regarding menus and supplies
  • organize work and establish priorities in preparing meals

Job Duties

  • Prepares, cooks, and seasons soups, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts and other foods
  • Follows master recipes in the preparation of food
  • Prepares food for freezing
  • operates grill, deep fat fryer, steam cooker, slicers, mixers and other related equipment
  • Assists in cleaning equipment and area after meals
  • Serves food
  • Performs other related duties as required
