As a Cook I, you will be responsible for preparing individual stations by adhering strictly to the restaurant chef's recipes and cooking procedures. This job requires a combination of culinary skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting. The position demands preparing a variety of dishes, plating meals according to specifications, and ensuring all ingredients and food items meet outlet expectations. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen by consistently managing trash, dishes, and other general cleaning duties is essential to ensure a safe and pleasant work environment.

Your daily tasks will include chopping, dicing, and cutting meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits; coordinating with shift leaders to balance inventory; cooking using grills, fryers, and French-tops; and ensuring the proper labeling and rotation of food products. There is also an expectation to interact professionally with co-workers and wait staff while maintaining a positive attitude and a friendly demeanor. In some cases, responsibilities may extend to cashiering duties such as processing cash and credit transactions quickly and accurately.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • one year previous culinary experience in a high-volume food service operation preferred
  • must be able to read, write, speak and understand basic English
  • must have ability to get along with co-workers and work as a team
  • must be able to have a sense of urgency and react to changing business demands
  • must have the ability to lift and carry large objects weighing up to 40 pounds above or below shoulders
  • must be able to push and pull up to 100 pounds on a cart or dolly
  • must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • must be able to maneuver all areas of the kitchen and food outlets
  • must possess the dexterity to use knives and other hand-held instruments, as well as food prep equipment

Job Duties

  • Conducts preparation of assigned menu items according to standardized recipes and specifications
  • chops, dices, and cuts various meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits for salad and sandwich preparation
  • combines ingredients and plates entrees, salads, sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, beverages, and appetizers
  • prepares all items for a station in accordance with outlet expectations
  • operates grill, fryer, and French-top
  • maintains required par of food items in assigned station
  • ensures ingredient supply levels are accurate
  • moves items from shelves to restock stations
  • maintains high level of service interacting with co-workers and wait staff
  • observes all safety rules and regulations
  • ensures assigned areas are clean and free of debris
  • maintains proper food levels and coordinates with shift leader for par levels
  • takes appropriate actions to ensure quality and reduce waste
  • maintains proper food rotation procedures
  • adheres to regulatory, safety, departmental and company policies
  • displays positive attitude and department signature greeting
  • handles and resolves customer concerns
  • processes cash/credit/comp transactions
