Job Description

Kent County Juvenile Detention Center is a secure, 98-bed facility dedicated to the care and safety of juvenile residents in the community. The center focuses on providing a structured environment where youth are offered opportunities for positive growth and development while ensuring their safety and security. Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • ability to read and comprehend recipes and other instructions
  • knowledge of material safety data sheets and safety information
  • basic math skills for food measurement calculations
  • ability to complete ServSafe certification within nine months
  • prior cooking experience preferred
  • availability to work part-time shifts typically from 10 am to 6 pm
  • ability to work every other weekend

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • ability to read and comprehend recipes and safety instructions
  • ability to perform basic math for food measurement calculations
  • prior experience in large-scale cooking preferred
  • knowledge of food safety practices
  • good communication skills
  • ability to follow instructions carefully

Job Duties

  • Prepare one or more parts of large meals for residents and staff
  • prepare special diets under supervisor instructions
  • serve meals to residents and staff
  • put away stock and supplies
  • clean kitchen and equipment thoroughly
  • maintain food safety standards
  • complete required ServSafe certification within probationary period
