Job Requirements

  • one year of experience in quantity cookery or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • associate degree in culinary arts, food service management or comparable major may substitute for experience
  • certificate of achievement with at least 30 semester credit hours in culinary arts or comparable major may substitute for experience
  • certificate of completion with at least 12 semester credit hours in culinary arts or comparable major may substitute for six months of experience
  • knowledge of quantity cookery
  • knowledge of use and care of cooking utensils and equipment
  • knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation requirements
  • knowledge of methods of handling and storing foods
  • knowledge of personal hygiene
  • ability to instruct and supervise others in cooking activities
  • ability to estimate raw food amounts
  • ability to plan cooking schedules
  • ability to work with others
  • ability to tolerate kitchen heat
  • ability to perform menu planning and food purchasing
  • ability to perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying
  • must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary

Job Duties
