Job Requirements
- one year of experience in quantity cookery or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- associate in science degree from an accredited college in culinary arts, food service management, or comparable major may substitute for general experience
- certificate of achievement with at least 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college in culinary arts or comparable major may substitute for general experience
- certificate of completion with at least 12 semester credit hours from an accredited college in culinary arts or comparable major may substitute for six months of general experience
- must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary
- must successfully pass pre-employment examination including drug screening and tuberculosis screening

- ability to instruct and supervise others in cooking activities
- knowledge of quantity cookery
- knowledge of use and care of cooking utensils and equipment
- knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation requirements
- knowledge of methods of handling and storing foods
- knowledge of personal hygiene
- ability to estimate amounts of raw foods necessary to meet menu requirements
- ability to plan cooking schedules to meet scheduled meal times
- ability to get along well with others
- ability to tolerate kitchen heat
- ability to perform menu planning and food purchasing as required
- ability to perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class
Job Duties
- prepare, season and cook food for hospital patients, residents, employees and visitors
- maintain and clean the work area
- practice safe and sanitary handling of food, equipment and supplies
- instruct and supervise others in cooking activities
- estimate amounts of raw foods necessary to meet menu requirements
- plan cooking schedules to meet scheduled meal times
- perform menu planning and food purchasing as required
