Job Requirements

  • Institutional and restaurant experience
  • good working knowledge of commercial food preparation and production standards including sanitation safety standards
  • knowledge of commercial grade kitchen equipment
  • ability to function independently with minimal supervision
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • flexibility and willingness to shift priorities
  • knowledge of service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  • ability to interact effectively with agency staff and a diverse client base

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • institutional and restaurant experience
  • knowledge of commercial food preparation and production standards
  • ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • flexibility and willingness to shift priorities
  • knowledge of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of service population
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • one to two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Duties

  • Oversees the preparation of meals
  • executes and maintains an efficient, economical and nutritious food service program
  • receives and supervises food donations and arranges for storage of food products
  • monitors quality standards in meal production
  • ensures kitchen sanitation and safety regulations are followed
  • monitors costs of raw materials
  • controls portions, waste, and maintains inventory levels
  • manages volunteer teams during meal preparation and serving
  • coordinates with Night Shelter staff for breakfast service
  • trains volunteers related to job duties
  • maintains confidentiality of client and agency information
  • ensures regular attendance
  • applies creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery
