Job Requirements

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age
  • high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • must obtain a food workers card prior to first day of work and Certified Food Protection Manager certification within 90 days of hire
  • complete CACFP training and orientation to include Civil Rights Training within first two weeks
  • one year experience in institutional style cooking preferred
  • must pass background check pursuant to State of Alaska and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • one year experience in institutional style cooking preferred
  • technical or vocational training preferred
  • ability to understand and implement state and federal food service regulations
  • ability to interact positively with youth
  • strong understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles including Alaska Native populations
  • ability to complete basic math calculations
  • ability to accurately read and interpret food recipes and make appropriate substitutions
  • obtain Certified Food Worker Card and Certified Food Protection Manager certification
  • complete CACFP training and orientation including Civil Rights Training

Job Duties

  • Plan menus
  • prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks that meet USDA/CACFP standards
  • maintain kitchen inventory and order supplies within budget guidelines
  • determine time and sequence of cooking operations to meet meal-serving hours
  • ensure kitchen facilities comply with OSHA regulations
  • maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in the kitchen
  • maintain food stock and label food items appropriately
  • research and prepare culturally appropriate foods
  • assist patients with nutritional information or food projects
  • complete and fax weekly menus, shopping lists, meal counts, and grocery receipts
  • shop for groceries as necessary
  • manage food service delivery
  • maintain records required for licensing and certification
  • complete documentation and periodic reports
  • complete daily meal counts and ensure accurate records
  • obtain and maintain Certified Food Worker Card and Food Protection Manager certification within 90 days of hire
