Job Requirements

  • Must be able to operate kitchen equipment including oven, steamer, fryer, tilt skillet, steam jacketed kettle
  • Must meet all training requirements annually and maintain successfully completed competencies
  • Works in hospital and clinical environments
  • May work in extreme heat with hot materials
  • Able to utilize appropriate universal and specific precautions for protection from potential exposure to infectious or communicable diseases
  • Able to use visual near and distance acuity
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio
  • Able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents or equipment using good body mechanics
  • Functional range of motion of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with grip strength of 60-80 pounds
  • Able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change positions rapidly
  • Able to lift 25-60 lbs and carry 25-50 lbs
  • Able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors
  • Able to work in noisy environments and be self-directed
  • Able to remain calm under stressful situations
  • Able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously
  • Able to prioritize job tasks and organize workspace efficiently
  • May require passing cardiac recovery test if classified under POPE C

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must have 1 year advanced quality kitchen experience in a cooking position or 6 months experience as a Carlyle Place Utility
  • Knowledge of HACCP and sanitation guidelines
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including oven, steamer, fryer, tilt skillet, steam jacketed kettle
  • Completion of all required annual training and competencies
  • Ability to work in hospital and clinical environments with adherence to universal and specific precautions

Job Duties

  • Prepares food under supervision for designated areas
  • Runs and maintains all kitchen machinery in accordance to guidelines
  • Rotates and labels all food items in designated area
  • Proficient in knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and sanitation guidelines set by the Department of Health
  • Performs various cooking duties including salad prep, prep cook, breakfast cook, grille cook, banquet cook, receiving clerk, line cook, and healthcare cook
  • Maintains compliance with health department transportation and food service guidelines
  • Assists in providing a positive dining experience for residents by serving food and additional assistance as needed
