Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One year of batch cooking experience involving main dishes and hot and cold food items
  • Valid Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) Certificate approved by the State of California
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory and records
  • Capability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, temperature-varied kitchen environment
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive hand movements
  • Willingness to comply with background checks, physical examinations, and tuberculosis testing
  • If required, valid class C California Driver License and access to a private automobile

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or its equivalency
  • One year of batch cooking experience in a central kitchen, restaurant, or large institutional setting
  • Valid Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) Certificate approved by the State of California
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and adjust quantities
  • Strong attention to detail in food preparation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and compliance with federal and state nutrition program requirements

Job Duties

  • Cook and prepare a variety of main dishes and hot food items including meats, vegetables, and sauces according to federal and state school breakfast and lunch menu requirements
  • Conduct inventory and maintain related records
  • Maintain food service facilities and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Adjust recipes to increase or decrease quantities as needed for special events or daily operations
  • Work independently while coordinating with Head Cook and Nutrition Services Supervisor for quality control
  • Ensure meals are appetizing and visually appealing
  • Meet daily preparation timelines for timely delivery to serving kitchens
