Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in large batch cooking is required
  • Ability to work full-time Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm
  • Willingness to adhere to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with cooking
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes
  • Availability to work in Avon, Connecticut at the Avon Old Farms School location
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Commitment to a drug-free workplace

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in large batch cooking
  • Ability to prepare and present food according to standardized recipes
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards including HACCP
  • Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety and following workplace guidelines
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring food is at correct temperature, attractive and tasty
  • Uses established ticket collection procedures during service and maintains accurate records
  • Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness
  • Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
  • Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat, ensuring food and supplies are stored per standards
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
  • Assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting
  • Assists in ordering and receiving food and supplies
  • Reports maintenance needs, faulty equipment, or accidents to supervisor immediately
  • Attends in-service and safety meetings
  • Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators and managers
  • Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment
  • Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures following HACCP standards
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to safety and adherence to company policies including the use of protective gloves and slip-resistant shoes
