Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • two years of cooking experience in a large-scale setting preferred
  • one year of experience in long term care preferred
  • knowledge of safe food handling and preparation techniques
  • ability to operate various kitchen equipment
  • ability to adhere to food safety and hygiene standards
  • strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • ability to work swing shift
  • ability to follow instructions and work under supervision

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred
  • two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation preferred
  • one year’s work experience in long term care preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes
  • reviews menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared
  • prepares food according to safe food handling guidelines per company policy and state and federal regulations
  • assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor
  • maintains standards for food preparation and quality of food service
  • operates kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, mixers, food slicers, steamers, food processors, ovens, ranges and tilt skillets
  • prepares special function meals and consistency modified diet foods
  • completes pre-preparation including washing, peeling and cutting vegetables and fruits
  • prepares and serves food attractively using gravies, sauces and garnishes
  • monitors and records food temperatures prior to meal service
  • makes and records menu changes under supervisor direction
  • follows proper hand washing techniques and food safety measures
  • cleans equipment and work area after use
  • assumes responsibility for meeting meal schedules
  • performs other duties as assigned
