Job Requirements

  • Completion of eighth grade and two years of food preparation training or experience
  • 1-2 years of food preparation experience
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of sanitary methods in food preparation
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in cooking food

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of eighth grade and two years of food preparation training or experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 2 years of food preparation experience
  • Large scale food preparation and/or hospital dietary experience preferred
  • Some knowledge of a variety of foods, their preparation and serving
  • Basic knowledge of sanitary methods used in food preparation
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in cooking food
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions
  • Basic mathematical skills

Job Duties

  • Checks menus in advance and alerts storeroom clerk to pull and thaw frozen foods
  • Ensures that foods are at the proper temperature for service
  • Prepares all foods indicated on production sheets using standardized recipe cards and standard portions
  • Schedules food preparation so that items such as vegetables, meats and grilled foods are prepared in small batches
  • Utilizes leftovers to eliminate waste
  • Utilizes proper methods for storing leftovers
  • Sanitizes work area and utensils as used
  • Checks equipment and cooking area to ascertain safety and sanitation requirements
  • Exemplifies commitment to caring standards in all activities
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position and area
