Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • minimum of six months of applicable experience preferred
  • ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions
  • ability to perform basic math
  • Serv Safe certification may be required within a designated time frame depending on location
  • annual continuing education requirements including safety education and mandatory in-services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required depending on location
  • valid driver's license may be required depending on location
  • ability to work rotating holidays and weekends
  • ability to work from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • willingness to follow standardized recipes and food safety guidelines

Job Duties

  • Prepare, assemble, cook, season, and portion baked goods and other foods for patients, residents, staff, and visitors
  • adhere to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation
  • perform washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas
  • maintain labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery
  • follow standardized recipes and HACCP guidelines to prepare, store, and use food and food products
  • document HACCP steps, temperatures, and outcomes
  • operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, ovens, stovetops, grills, deep fat fryers, knives, dishwashers, and refrigerators
  • work independently when necessary
  • understand and apply food safety and sanitation processes
  • demonstrate ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances within the hospital
