Job Requirements

  • No high school diploma and or no GED required
  • Less than 1 year required

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques
  • Ability to read and follow recipes
  • Knowledge of and or ability to learn safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of and or ability to learn chemicals and equipment used to clean surface areas sufficient to be able to maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written or demonstrated instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Prepares and serves food to customers and or patients at an a la carte and or grill station
  • Reads food order or receives verbal instructions and cooks food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions or numbers of portions to be served
  • Operates a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to measure, blend, chop, slice and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption
  • Take and record food and refrigeration temperatures on the appropriate HACCP logs and document corrective actions
  • Alerts supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies
  • Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies and equipment or other unusual conditions
  • Maintains and establishes departmental policies, procedures, objections, quality assurance programs and health and safety standards
  • Ensures that necessary sanitary levels are maintained thought the food preparation process, and that all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
  • May receive inventory, move or lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals requiring special diets
