Job Requirements

  • Less than high school education
  • minimum 1 year related experience
  • food handlers card upon hire
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • capacity to work early morning to mid-afternoon shifts
  • ability to follow sanitary and food safety standards
  • teamwork and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Less than high school education required
  • vocational or specialized training preferred
  • minimum 1 year related experience in food preparation or cooking
  • food handlers card required upon hire
  • driver license preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare entrees, vegetables, starches, sauces and soups
  • prepare, season and cook food according to standardized recipes and specifications
  • set up and service meals following established schedules and procedures
  • operate kitchen equipment including ovens, choppers, mixers, blenders, grills, braisers, turbo chef, range, steamer, food processor, fryer, slicer, infrared broiler and knives
  • store and maintain food items at safe temperatures according to department guidelines and health regulations
  • conduct food temperature checks and document on temperature log forms
  • conduct temperature checks on food storage refrigeration units and document
  • plan and implement cooking processes to ensure foods are ready at required times
  • ensure all foods meet standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
  • inspect and maintain cleanliness and safe operation of cooking equipment and utensils
  • review forecast tally for production count and adjust production based on current census and supervisor instructions
  • maintain required sanitary levels during food preparation
  • plan total production schedule incorporating cafeteria, special menu needs and patient tally
  • verify food and supply items issued and requisition additional items if needed
