Job Requirements
- Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
- minimum of one year institutional food service experience as a cook
- ability to follow diet orders and procedural guidelines
- knowledge of food safety, handling, and storage regulations
- capability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment
- ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food preparation and serving areas
- willingness to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
- compliance with facility safety and infection control policies
- good physical stamina to perform cleaning and lifting tasks
- effective communication skills for reporting and coordinating with management
Job Qualifications

- familiarity with state and federal food safety laws

- ability to participate in required educational and in-service training
Job Duties
- Assist cook in preparation of meals, salads, desserts, snacks, and between-meal nourishments
- follow diet orders including NPO orders
- serve nourishments according to guidelines
- properly store leftovers and opened food
- follow procedures for serving partner meals
- offer menu substitutions and record them accordingly
- comply with infection control policies
- deliver trays to patients and residents
- assist with serving beverages and prepare coffee or tea as requested
- clean tables in dining area after each meal
- clean work area at end of shift including sweeping and mopping
- clean kitchen equipment such as carts, tables, counters, ice machine, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine, coffee and tea maker, and steam table
- remove garbage and hose out containers
- scrape, wash, and store dishes, pots and pans
- record freezer and refrigerator temperatures
- maintain dishwasher and dish sink, check water temperature and chemical levels
- manage supply stock and store items properly
- set up tray line and perform tray line service
- operate various kitchen equipment
- clean and maintain serving equipment
- apply food handling, preparation, and storage techniques
- follow recipes and prepare meals as per menu cycles
- assist in supervising kitchen staff and managing food service work areas
- prepare and maintain food substitutes for resident preferences
- inspect trays post-meal and report findings
- use food preparation equipment following manufacturers instructions
- follow cleaning and maintenance schedules
- handle food supplies in compliance with regulations
