Job Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Minimum of one year institutional food service experience as a cook
  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Compliance with state and federal food safety regulations
  • Physical ability to perform kitchen duties including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to follow safety and infection control protocols
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with dietary manager and team members

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Minimum of one year institutional food service experience as a cook
  • Preferred experience in long term care food production
  • Knowledge of food handling and storage regulations
  • Ability to follow recipes and dietetic guidelines
  • Working knowledge of infection control and safety procedures
  • Ability to supervise kitchen aides and assistants
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Commitment to resident rights and dignity
  • Basic knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures

Job Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of meals, salads, desserts, and snacks for patients/residents
  • Follow diet orders and NPO diet orders
  • Serve nourishments according to procedural guidelines
  • Properly store leftovers and opened food
  • Follow procedures for serving partner meals
  • Offer menu substitutions and record them
  • Comply with infection control policies
  • Deliver trays to patients/residents on halls and in dining area
  • Assist with serving/pouring beverages and make coffee/tea as requested
  • Clean all tables in the dining area after each meal
  • Clean work area at the end of shift, including sweeping and mopping
  • Clean kitchen equipment such as carts, tables, counters, and appliances
  • Remove garbage and hose out garbage containers
  • Wash dishes, pots, and pans and store properly
  • Record freezer and refrigerator temperatures
  • Maintain dishwasher and check chemical levels
  • Maintain supply stock and properly store items
  • Set up tray line and perform tray line service
  • Operate kitchen equipment per manufacturer instructions
  • Use, clean, and maintain serving equipment
  • Follow food handling and preparation regulations
  • Cook foods according to dietitian menus
  • Assist with supervision of kitchen staff
  • Prepare food substitutes for dietary preferences
  • Inspect trays after meal service
  • Use food preparation equipment safely
  • Follow proper cleaning and maintenance schedules
  • Handle food supplies in compliance with regulations
