Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment
- meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position
- direct deposit and social security card is required
- satisfactory completion of employment verification (E-Verify) check
- successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on the job competency
- able to obtain and maintain Food Protection Manager Certification within first six months
- subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks including Child Care Tier 1 background investigation
- must have current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and necessary immunizations including annual influenza vaccination
- travel to on and off post locations may be required with irregular hours, evenings, and weekends
- work may involve exposure to steam, fumes, odors, extreme temperatures, risk of slips, cuts or burns
- must be able to frequently lift or move objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
- work involves continuous standing and walking
- one-year probationary period may be required
Job Qualifications
- Must have experience demonstrating knowledge of a full range of food preparation techniques including developing and revising standardized recipes
- coordinating cooking in large quantities using complex recipes and varied cooking methods
- preparing foods for special or modified diets such as diabetic exchanges, low sodium, and food allergies
- instructing lower-level cooks
- experience using a variety of commercial food service tools and equipment including cleaning and sanitation practices
- basic math skills to modify recipes and determine portion sizes
- ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
- resumes must be two pages or less and clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities
Job Duties
- Apply knowledge and skill to assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive food service program following USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program policies
- Review recipes, menus, and worksheets to determine ingredients needed for regular or special diets
- Accomplish meal preparation duties using a variety of utensils and equipment such as knives, mixers, steam kettles, ovens, and grills
- Prepare and cook all types of meats, poultry, seafood, salads, vegetables, grains, pasta, fruits, sauces, gravies, breads, and desserts
- Utilize special and complex recipes and various cooking methods such as roasting, broiling, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, or sautéing
