Job Requirements
- Direct deposit and social security card required
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment
- Meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position
- Completion of employment verification (E-Verify) check
- Completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment, with 4 hours annual refresher training
- Subject to completion of Child Care Tier 1 background investigation
- Must have current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and required immunizations including annual influenza vaccine
- Work availability during irregular hours, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend frequently
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted and heavier objects with assistance
- Ability to work in kitchen environments exposed to heat, steam, odors, and variable temperatures
- Must stand on tile floors and be aware of hazards such as burns, cuts, bruises, and slipping on wet floors
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of six months of work experience directly related to food preparation duties
- Skill in using professional kitchen appliances and equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds routinely
- Demonstrated knowledge of food sanitation and safety practices
- Experience in preparing diverse meals including meats, poultry, seafood, and baked goods
- Strong teamwork and training skills
- Commitment to upholding risk management and safety procedures
Job Duties
- Apply knowledge and skill to assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive food service program following USDA CACFP policies and procedures
- Perform a variety of food preparation and cooking tasks including cleaning, peeling, slicing, dicing, grilling, frying, baking, broiling, pouring liquids, and mixing ingredients
- Prepare and cook complicated and time-consuming foods such as meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, stews, casseroles, gravies, sauces, and baked goods following standard recipes
- Work with Food and Nutrition Specialists to prepare menus and submit food orders and purchase requests
- Assist with on the job training of other kitchen staff members and serve as consultant to youth cooking clubs and health and fitness programs as required
- Follow risk management procedures in food preparation and safety
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards within the kitchen environment
