Fort Bragg Middle School & Teen Center is part of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) program located at Fort Bragg, a prominent military installation supporting the families of service members and civilian personnel. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment
- Complete Food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment and annual refresher training thereafter
- Satisfactorily complete employment verification (E-Verify) and background investigations including Child Care Tier 1
- Provide current health assessment documenting mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations per Army and DoD policies including annual influenza vaccination
- Be able to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
- Ability to stand continually, walk frequently, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend
- Work safely in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, fumes, odors, noise, and extreme temperature variations
- Ability to lift/move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted and heavier weights with assistance
- Be prepared to work on tile floors with risks of burns, cuts, bruises, and slips
- Direct deposit and social security card required
- May be subject to a one-year probationary period
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of six months of work experience related to food preparation and cooking in a professional kitchen environment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
- Skilled in working with professional kitchen appliances and equipment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a routine basis
- Demonstrated knowledge of food sanitation and safety practices
- Resumes must be two pages or less and clearly show relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities
- No formal education requirement
Job Duties
- Apply knowledge and skills to assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive food service program that follows USDA CACFP policies
- Perform various food preparation and cooking tasks such as cleaning, paring, peeling, slicing, dicing, grilling, frying, baking, broiling, pouring liquids and mixing ingredients
- Prepare and cook complicated and time-consuming foods including meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, stews, casseroles, gravies, sauces, and baked goods following standard recipes
- Collaborate with Food and Nutrition Specialists to prepare menus and submit food orders and purchase requests
- Assist with on-the-job training of other kitchen staff and serve as consultant to youth cooking clubs and health and fitness programs
- Follow risk management and safety procedures diligently
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in all kitchen operations
