Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in cooking or food preparation preferred
  • ability to stand for long periods
  • ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • ability to repeat the same movements
  • ability to bend or twist the body
  • ability to maintain good hygiene and personal cleanliness

  • willingness to comply with all safety and sanitation regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • basic understanding of or ability to learn sanitation and regulations for workplace safety
  • basic understanding of or ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures
  • must be able to work quickly and efficiently
  • must be able to work well as part of a team
  • must be able to work well under pressure
  • ability to maintain personal cleanliness
  • high school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics, such as food safety, preferred
  • previous experience as a busboy, washer, waiter, cook, or relevant work experience
  • one year of related experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals and snacks that are consistently tasteful, nutritious, and appealing to residents and guests
  • maintain a sanitary, orderly, and safe kitchen and dining environment
  • assist with menu planning, reviewing, and adjusting menus with Supervisor to accommodate foods in season, special events, and holidays
  • alter or adapt meals to accommodate the special dietary needs of residents
  • help with ordering, delivery, and inventory of food, supplies, and equipment, as directed
  • ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of food for infection control
  • notify Supervisor of malfunction of equipment or appliances
  • recognize improvement opportunities
  • prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
  • develop constructive relationships with co-workers, residents, and families
  • stay in compliance with State and Federal food handling and safety regulations
  • perform other duties as assigned
