Job Requirements

  • Complete a background investigation with favorable results
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods
  • Obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training
  • U.S. citizenship or Non-U.S. national residency for 3 or more consecutive years preceding federal affiliation
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service
  • Direct deposit required
  • Satisfactorily complete employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • May be required to complete a probationary period
  • Pre-employment requirements must be met prior to Entrance on Duty
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station costs is not authorized
  • Must fully meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club, or similar food activity
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work safely and perform simple arithmetic
  • Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment
  • Understanding of food characteristics and seasoning
  • Physically capable of lifting objects up to 40 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for extended periods
  • Ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate
  • Successful completion of a criminal background investigation

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook simple food items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables
  • Prepare hot cereals, broiled meats, concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies
  • Make cold sandwich fillings and prepare convenience items like frozen hash browns, fish fillets, and chicken nuggets
  • Peel, chop, grind, pare, cut, slice, dice, puree, dredge, flour, and bread ingredients for menu items
  • Weigh, measure, assemble, and portion ingredients for meal service
  • Set up and replenish salad bar and cover, date, and store leftovers according to established procedures
  • Wash and clean kitchen equipment and maintain kitchen sanitation
