Job Requirements

  • Ged
  • high school diploma
  • previous experience as a general worker, cook, baker, or lead worker or minimum 3 years commercial cooking and/or baking experience
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions and take initiative
  • physical ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • ServSafe certification
  • knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program meal pattern requirements
  • ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively
  • knowledge of HACCP requirements
  • completion or willingness to complete Unit Classes 1 through 4
  • good attendance record

  • Knowledge of HACCP requirements including food and equipment temperature logs and safe food handling procedures
  • Completion or willingness to complete Unit Classes 1 through 4
  • ServSafe certification
  • Demonstrated good attendance records

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in food preparation of pre-planned menu items including a la carte and special requests
  • Prepare food in appropriate quantities ensuring adequate portions and minimal leftovers
  • Plan and utilize time effectively to prepare daily menu and frozen items
  • Read recipes and convert measurements accurately
  • Inform manager of supply needs in advance
  • Implement proper food handling and storage practices according to HACCP regulations
  • Maintain accurate daily production and HACCP records
  • Receive, issue, and store food supplies, signing delivery slips and invoices as directed
  • Operate and maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment including steam cookers, convection and baking ovens, slicers, mixers, and vertical cutter mixers
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and avoid backlog of unwashed equipment
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues and follow instructions
  • Sweep floors in the food preparation area
  • Assume additional responsibilities in absence of Cafeteria Manager or lead worker
  • Address any tasks needed to expedite food preparation, serving, and cleanup
  • Display a cooperative and accommodating attitude towards students, faculty, staff, and coworkers
